City Name: Aurevale
Layer: Sixth Layer – The Isles of Elysium
What the City is Known For:
Aurevale is a quiet village nestled between Dawntide’s outer gardens and the wildflower cliffs that overlook the crystal ponds. Known as the “Sanctuary Between Light and Wind,” Aurevale is a small but cherished community devoted to healing, balance, and natural magic. Many Tatsukoi who live here specialize in restorative arts—healing magic, potion crafting, and emotional/spiritual wellness. It’s the kind of place you might stumble into by accident and never want to leave. From above, the town appears like a patch of wildflowers spilling down the slope, woven between glistening stones and gentle waterfalls that feed into clear, shallow ponds.
The homes are rounded and low, built into the landscape rather than over it. Most have flowering rooftops, open-air patios, and walls carved from soft crystal-veined stone that shimmer faintly in the moonlight. Hanging gardens bloom from every ledge and trellis, releasing scents of lavender, windmint, and honeyfern that drift with the breeze.
Soft winds constantly move through Aurevale, always warm, always humming—carrying pollen, magic, and the occasional whisper of laughter from one hill to the next. Small glowing insects (known as lightmotes) flit between garden beds and pond lilies at night, casting a gentle glow over the village like a field of floating stars.
The streets are quiet. There are no carriages or loud markets—just mossy cobblestone paths lined with lantern-blooms and chime-vines that sing softly when brushed. A gentle stream winds through the village, its banks lined with smooth stepping stones that lead to footbridges, fountains, and places to sit and watch the sky shift.
In the center of town stands a circular plaza paved in opal-hued crystal, engraved with the symbols for peace, rest, and renewal.
Interesting Things to See:
Lumiora’s Hollow:
Tucked into the side of a gently sloping hill, Lumiora’s Hollow is easy to miss if you’re not looking for it—but once you step inside, it’s impossible to forget.
From the outside, it looks like a bloom-covered den in the earth, framed by weeping vines and stone archways wrapped in flowering herbs. Wild thistle, windmint, dreamblossoms, and moonleaf spill over the rooftop in soft purples and silver-blues, humming gently with ambient healing magic. Pale crystals jut out between the roots and petals, catching the sun and scattering it across the path like shards of light. The entrance has no door—just soft, beaded curtains made of sea-glass, bones, and woven reeds that rattle quietly in the breeze. The air inside smells of warm tea, damp moss, lavender oil, and something sweeter—like a memory you can’t quite place.
Inside, the Hollow is round and open, with smooth walls shaped by both nature and magic. The ceiling is partially open to the sky, allowing filtered sunlight to stream in through the hanging canopy of plants. Ribbons and lanterns sway above, some glowing faintly with preserved spells or good dreams left behind by grateful patients. There are no formal beds. Instead, soft nests of cushions and layered blankets form cozy resting spots around the edges of the room. Shelves carved directly into the walls are packed with crystal bottles, glowing jars of salves, hand-labeled pouches of dried herbs, and gently folded scrolls of old, soft-spoken spellwork.
In the center of the Hollow is a shallow stone basin filled with clear water from one of Aurevale’s crystal-fed springs. This is where Lumiora performs most of her healing—her paws hovering just above the surface, her voice low and calm as magic pulses outward like ripples. Nearby, a single journal rests on a pedestal—The Gratitude Book—where visitors can leave drawings, blessings, or written memories of what they’ve healed from. Some pages shimmer with protective spells, some hum with old songs. A few entries are written by Tatsukoi who returned years later, just to say thank you.
The Windpetal Tree:
The Windpetal Tree stands at the edge of Aurevale, just before the cliffs descend into the mist-veiled waterfalls below. Towering and ancient, it is said to be the oldest living thing in all of Layer 6—perhaps even older than Dawntide itself. Its thick trunk twists with grace and strength, and its roots plunge deep into crystal-laced earth, fed by springwater and magic alike.
But it is the leaves that give the tree its name.
Each one is wide and translucent, with the shimmer of stained glass and the softness of silk. When the wind passes through the tree’s massive canopy, the leaves don’t rustle—they chime. Soft, melodic, and always changing, the Windpetal’s song is different for each listener. Some hear music. Some hear the voice of a loved one. Others claim the tree sings back memories they had forgotten. Its branches are covered in charms, ribbons, and small carved tokens—left behind by Tatsukoi who came seeking peace, guidance, or closure. These are known as wind offerings, and each one carries a piece of the soul that placed it. Some are simple—dried flowers, a braided string. Others are more intimate—notes written to someone who’s passed on, prayers for healing, or promises not yet fulfilled.
When the wind picks up at dusk, it lifts those offerings into the air briefly—scattering them for just a moment before settling them gently back. Locals believe this is the tree "accepting" them, and with that acceptance, sending the message to the Sea of Spirits. At the base of the tree, the earth forms a natural ring of smooth stone—a sacred space for reflection. No magic is cast here, no loud voices are heard. It is a place of silence and surrender, where Tatsukoi sit with their thoughts and feel the world slow down.
Some come to say goodbye. Some come to remember.
And some come simply to sit beneath the chime of leaves and feel seen.
